Yarrabah Positive and Respectful Relationships Project

The Yarrabah Positive and Respectful Relationships Project (the project) is bringing people together to build a safer community.

The project aims to:

  • increase young people’s awareness and knowledge about safe and respectful relationships
  • increase understanding about consent
  • promote personal and online safety.

The project’s long-term goal is to enhance the safety and wellbeing of young people in Yarrabah.

It involves young people working with community to co-design and implement a local action plan to promote respectful relationships and build a safer community.

Young People’s Committee

We are establishing a Young People’s Committee (the committee) to guide the project and we called for nominations from Yarrabah’s young people aged 16 to 25 years.

Nominations closed at 5pm on 14 March 2023.

The committee will design a fun and innovative program to promote respectful relationships, prevent violence and help build a safer community. Committee members will receive First Nations leadership training and learn how to run a committee. They will also be reimbursed with gift vouchers ($25 per hour) for their time and contribution.

What’s next?

After the nomination closing date, a panel of local Yarrabah people will review the nominations and select the committee members. We will contact the nominees by email or phone to let them know the outcome of their nominations.
